Recognition and Redistribution in Aristotle’s Account of Stasis: a Response to Our Critics

Abstract We reply to the objections raised in Polis 40 (2023) by Ryan Balot and Manuel Knoll our original paper ‘Recognition Redistribution Aristotle’s Account of Stasis ’, published 39 (2022). argue that is correct arguing Aristotle distinguishes between democratic views distributive justice his own, but wrong this wholly resolves a tension exposition as, one sense, based on equality ‘according worth’ another arithmetic equality. Balot, we contend, misconstrues argument when he represents us as claiming that, according Aristotle, injustice which leads agents engage stasis exists entirely their own minds. did not do hold view therefore ( pace Balot) are no way committed any its alleged implications. Balot’s misunderstanding point entails wholesale misrepresentation argument.
